How much do dental implants actually cost in the UK?

A single-tooth implant in the UK is typically £2,000–£3,500 all-in. Full-arch replacements (All-on-4 and similar) are £8,000–£30,000 per arch. The range is wide because what "all-in" means varies by clinic. This page breaks it down.

Single-tooth implant — typical UK pricing

ComponentTypical UK range
Consultation & CT scan£100–£350
Implant fixture + surgery£1,200–£2,200
Abutment£200–£400
Crown (porcelain/zirconia)£500–£900
Optional: bone graft£400–£1,200
Optional: sinus lift£800–£2,500
All-in (no grafting)£2,000–£3,500

Full-arch options

When you're replacing a full row of teeth, the math changes. Instead of one implant per tooth, most protocols use 4–6 implants to support a bridge of 10–14 teeth:

  • All-on-4 (one arch): £8,000–£15,000. Four implants supporting a fixed bridge. Common in the UK and in "teeth in a day" marketing.
  • All-on-6 (one arch): £12,000–£20,000. Six implants; better long-term biomechanics for many patients.
  • Full-mouth reconstruction (both arches): £18,000–£50,000+. Depends on complexity, grafting, and materials.
  • Implant-retained denture: £3,500–£7,000 per arch. 2–4 implants holding a removable denture. Cheaper but less comfortable than fixed.

What's often excluded from the headline price

Ask every quote explicitly whether the following are included. If the answer is "extra," add it to your calculation.

  • The initial 3D CT scan (sometimes £100–£350 separately).
  • Bone grafting if scan reveals insufficient bone. Common after long-term extractions.
  • Sinus lifts for upper molars.
  • Temporary teeth during the 3–6 month healing phase.
  • The final crown — some clinics quote the fixture only.
  • Follow-up maintenance visits in year 1.
  • Warranty coverage and what it includes.

A transparent clinic gives you an itemised written quote listing each of the above. If the quote is a single lump sum with no breakdown, that is not transparency — it's obfuscation.

Why prices vary so much

  1. Implant brand. Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Astra Tech are premium systems with decades of data — £500–£1,000 more per implant than generic alternatives. Most ADI-accredited UK clinicians use premium brands.
  2. Clinician experience. A dentist who has placed 5,000 implants charges more than one who has placed 50. Fair.
  3. Overheads. Harley Street rent is not the same as a suburban practice in Leeds. London median prices run ~20–30% above the UK average.
  4. Materials on the crown. Monolithic zirconia vs layered porcelain-fused-to-zirconia vs standard porcelain all price differently.
  5. Bundled prep work. Some clinics include a year of follow-up; some don't.

Pricing red flags

  • "Implants from £999". Almost always the fixture-only price. Crown, abutment, and scan are extras — the real total lands at £2,000+ once the add-ons are itemised.
  • No CT scan before quoting. Means the clinic can't know whether you'll need grafting. The real price is a guess.
  • Pressure to commit the same day. A £3,000 decision does not need to be made at the consultation. Any clinic pushing you to sign today is optimising their conversion, not your outcome.
  • Overseas packages without UK follow-up. Hungary, Turkey, and Poland sell implant packages at 40–60% of UK pricing. The cost-saving is real; the liability if something goes wrong is your problem. Some UK clinics will refuse to treat failed overseas implants.

Can I get implants on the NHS?

Realistically, no — except in very specific medical circumstances (congenital missing teeth, trauma, oncology cases). The NHS commissions implant treatment only where there is a clinical necessity that cannot be addressed by bridges or dentures. Most cosmetic and functional cases are private. Discuss with a GDP or oral surgeon if you think you qualify.

Paying — finance, insurance, savings plans

See our finance chapter for details. Short version: 0% finance over 12 months is common and reasonable. Interest-bearing finance over 3–5 years can add 15–30% to the total cost — read the APR.
